The presentation discussed new 3D CT scan technology and possible ways this can be used to help sinus patients. He was joined by Drs. Zinreich and Ishii from Johns Hopkins Medical Institute in Baltimore.

The report is based on several years of study and collaboration with a group of doctors from the US and Europe.  The article is entitled, “The Anterior Ethmoidal “Genu”: A Newly Appreciated Anatomic Landmark for Endoscopic Sinus Surgery”.  The research explores an anatomic landmark that can be used in an effort to provide safer and more effective sinus surgery for patients.


William Bolger, MDDr. Bolger Presents Lecture to Jacksonville Ear, Nose and Throat Society

Dr. Bolger recently gave a lecture presentation to the Jacksonville Ear, Nose and Throat Society, hosted at Medtronic Inc. entitled, “Nasal hemorrhage: addressing new challenges in contemporary rhinology”.  Nosebleeds, also known as epistaxis, are a common problem and can be significant in some patients.  It is estimated that 1 out of every 200 emergency room visits is for epistaxis, 15% of people arrive by ambulance and 6% are hospitalized. Nosebleeds are becoming more challenging for ENT doctors to treat due conditions and medications that alter the body’s ability to clot blood.  ENT doctors are adapting treatment strategies to account for this.

Dr. Bolger was selected for inclusion in Jacksonville’s Magazines list of the Best Doctors 2018.  He was one of five otorhinolaryngolgists in the greater Jacksonville area to receive this distinction.  Jacksonville Magazine partners with Top Doctors 2018organizations such as Best Doctors, Inc. to select doctors for its list.  Best Doctors, Inc. identifies the top 5% of specialists through a peer-review poll.  Inclusion is only possible after being nominated and receiving a consensus vote from other physicians on the Best Doctor’s List. 


Dr. Bolger Teaches Sinus Surgery Course

Dr. Bolger was the invited guest lecturer at the Johns Hopkins Medical Institution Resident Sinus Surgery Course on May 18 and 19.  He lectured on anatomy for endoscopic sinus and skull base surgery, emphasizing principles to prevent complications during surgery.  He also performed demonstration dissections and taught otolaryngology residents in training from Johns Hopkins Medical Institution and Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in the Minimally Invasive Surgical Skills Facility at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, Maryland.

Research Presentation

Dr. Bolger recently participated in research aimed at better understanding sinus anatomy in an effort to improve surgical treatment and reduce risks for patients.  Elements of the research team’s findings were presented at the Annual Meeting of the European Rhinology Society in London on April 23rd, by Dr. Stammberger of the University of Graz, Austria and Dr. Zinriech of Johns Hopkins Medical Institute.  The presentation was entitled, “New Insights into Anterior Ethmoid / Frontal Recess Anatomy: Challenging the Cell-Based Concepts of Past and Present".

Congratualtions to Dr. Naseri, and co-authors Dr Hanel and VJ Anagnos, on the recent acceptance of their manuscipt, “Pituitary abcess: a rare clinical entity in the prescence of acute rhinosinusitis”, for publication in the Journal of Neurologic Surgery.

William Bolger, MDDr. Bolger participates in research to make surgery safer and less invasive for patients

Dr. Bolger returns to the North Florida Sinus Center after traveling to snowy Buffalo, New York to participate in nearly a week of research and educational activities. He joined an international group of physicians and researchers from the State University of New York Medical School at Buffalo, Johns Hopkins Medical School and the Medical University at Graz, Austria. The research involved improving orientation and precision in surgical dissection in order to make surgery safer and less invasive for patients. Welcome back Dr. Bolger!

Dr. Naseri was invited guest faculty for the Third Annual Course in Office-Based Sinus Surgery, March 24-28th, 2017 at the Ponte Vedra Lodge and Club.  ENT doctors attended the meeting from the local region and beyond. The course is designed for Otolaryngologist to develop a solid foundation of best practices and practical experience in office sinus surgery, and to introduce new technology, concepts, and techniques.
