The North Florida Sinus Center offers unique surgical expertise focusing on the treatment of numerous conditions affecting the nose, and sinuses including surrounding structures along the skull base, in addition to the surgical treatment of upper airway disorders spanning from voice and breathing difficulties to obstructive sleep apnea. Surgery for sinus and nasal disorders:

Endoscopic Sinus Surgery: Open and endoscopic treatments, including extensive experience with revision surgeries, for various chronic sinonasal conditions (chronic sinusitis, polyposis, allergic fungal sinusitis/inverted papilloma)

In-office procedures including: balloon sinuplasty, polypectomy, eustachian tube balloon dilation, lysis of adhesions, Latera® implant, Inferior turbinate ablation

Piezosurgery: A relatively new technology helps address this challenge by generating sound waves and small vibrations to remove bone. This technology is called piezosurgery or ultrasonic bone aspiration

Endoscopic surgery for blocked tear ducts and orbital decompression for Grave’s related eye disease:

Endoscopic treatment of thyroid eye disease (proptosis), medial and inferior orbital decompression

Endoscopic treatment of blocked tear duct (Dacryocystorhinostomy procedure)

Endoscopic orbital/optic nerve decompression

Multi-level surgery for obstructive sleep apnea:

Nonsurgical/office treatments for Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA): Injection snoreplasty, Palatal implants (Pillar Implant©), Latera® implant, Somnoplasty of the tongue/palate/inferior turbinate

Trans-Oral Robotic Surgery: A new and promising use for moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea. In these cases, Trans-Oral Robotic Surgery is used to reduce the size of the tongue and the back of the throat to improve airflow and breathing. Compared with traditional open surgical options, Trans-Oral Robotic Surgery provides improved visualization and access to such difficult-to- access areas. This often translates into less pain and swelling after the surgery.

Skull Base Surgery: Expanded endonasal endoscopic approaches for management of benign and malignant sinonasal and anterior skull base tumors: paranasal/orbital/petro-clival/cribriform/planum/pterygopalatine fossa and other similar approaches

Reconstruction of anterior skull base defects (post-surgical/traumatic/idiopathic)

Management of encephaloceles or meningoencephaloceles (brain herniation into the nose/sinus cavity)

The Florida Skull Base Center® is a dedicated new program offered by the North Florida Sinus Center© to the greater community in the North Florida and surrounding region.

The team is comprised of a select group of subspecialists working in unison to manage a variety of complex conditions affecting the skull base. The combined knowledge and experience of this multidisciplinary team of subspecialists makes it unique to the south eastern region and among a few in the country to offer such focused specialized services.
